So It’s All About Money?  

General Remarks on Money & Currency:  

1. Israeli currency is called SHEKEL (NIS for New Israeli Shekel) 

2. There’s no limit on amount of money brought into the country  

3. US dollars are acceptable in many places, as well as travellers’ cheques and international credit cards (that can be used at almost all ATMs – click on the link to locate an ATM)  

4. VAT refund is available – Tourists who purchase merchandise worth $50 or more in shops that are registered with the Ministry of Tourism are eligible for %5 discount and VAT refund upon leaving the country. The refund can be received at the Departation Hall at the “Change Place” counter, where you will need to show the merchandise and the receipt(s). Refund is in US dollars.
